Edward Cary Walthall (April 4, 1831April 21, 1898) was a general in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War and a postbellum United States Senator from Mississippi.

ISBN 978-0-8071-0823-9. p. 325.〕 Walthall moved to Mississippi with his family in 1841.〔〔 He attended St. Thomas Hall in Holly Springs, studying law.〔 He was admitted to the bar in 1852.〔 Then, he practiced law in Coffeeville.〔 He was elected district attorney for the tenth judicial district of Mississippi in 1856 and reelected in 1859.〔
